~About the Artist~

After leaving the University of Iowa with a Master of Fine Arts, Jim was "Visiting Artist" in Ladysmith, Wisconsin and taught art at a Boys Club in St. Charles, Missouri.

While with his wife Sheila, in the Peace Corps on the small island of St. Vincent in the Caribbean, he taught school leavers to make reproductions of Arawak Indian pottery and "adornos". Coincidentally, his island home was less than one hundred yards from one of the richest archeological digs in the West Indies. The Arawak "decommissioned" ceramic artifacts of a spiritual nature at the site about the time of Christ's birth. Jim worked with local archeologists collecting specimens for a small museum that was being developed.

Another international living opportunity took Jim, Sheila and now, son Kene, to Jordan in the Middle East where the whole country is an archeological site with crusader castles, roman amphitheaters and Petra, which Jim says is the most amazing place he's ever been. On his second day in the country he met Queen Noor.

While in Jordan he trained counterparts to do programming at eleven centers for juvenile delinquent and disadvantaged youth. He also had time to exhibit both ceramic sculpture and photography at the American Center and the Princess Alia Art Gallery.

In addition to international venues, Jim's work has been shown in competitive national, regional and state exhibits. The Missouri Arts Council has traveled his photography throughout Missouri.

"Since graduate school days, I have lived my life as art. My work, relationships, feast and famine are all part of a mosaic that may end with my death. Crowdog and Zacharia have spoken to me from other times. I too may project my spirit visions from the past and future."
